Pa Chor, Elephants and Bamboo Rafting – Perfect for the Hot Season
Get ready for an action-packed day of discovery and relaxation, specially curated for the warmer months. This full-day adventure takes you deep into some of Chiang Mai’s most fascinating landscapes, combining unique geological wonders, close-up wildlife experiences, and peaceful river cruising—all in one unforgettable journey.
First Stop: The Otherworldly Rock Formations of Pa Chor
Our adventure begins with a visit to the surreal landscape of Pa Chor, a geological treasure shaped by nature over millions of years. Once a riverbed of the ancient Ping River, this area has slowly transformed through centuries of erosion into towering sandstone pillars and maze-like formations that look almost otherworldly. As we explore the 900-meter trail through the canyon, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos, marvel at the rock textures, and enjoy sweeping views from the top. This is one of those places where nature's artistry takes center stage.
Coffee, Elephants, and Riverside Views in Mae Win Valley
Next, we’ll travel to the serene Mae Win Valley, a hidden gem nestled in the lush hills of Chiang Mai. Here, you'll have the rare opportunity to enjoy a coffee break with elephants along a beautiful riverside setting. These gentle giants roam freely in their natural environment—some might wander over to say hello, grab a snack from a fruit tree, or take a refreshing dip in the water. You’ll get the chance to feed them, observe their behavior, and connect with them in a peaceful, respectful way. It’s a soulful moment of stillness and awe.
After connecting with the elephants, we’ll relax over a delicious riverside lunch, surrounded by nature. Whether you choose to cool your feet in the water, chat with your travel mates, or simply soak up the stunning scenery, this is a perfect mid-day pause to refresh and reset.
Final Adventure: Bamboo Rafting on the Wang River
Our last adventure takes to the water as we hop aboard traditional bamboo rafts for a scenic journey down the Wang River. Prepare for a bit of splashing and a lot of fun! The current is gentle, making this a relaxing ride where you can truly take in the natural beauty of the valley. As you drift downstream for about an hour, your local guide will share stories and insights about the region, adding depth to the stunning surroundings.
Journey's End: Return to Chiang Mai
Once we finish our bamboo rafting journey, we’ll make our way back to Chiang Mai and drop you off at your accommodation, leaving you with unforgettable memories and a camera roll full of highlights from an epic day of exploration.

Additional Information
What to Expect
This trip is designed for hot season between February - June allowing for plenty of cooling off time and non strenuous activities. Whilst Pa Chor can get very hot, we visit first thing in the morning to avoid the strongest heat. The steps are steep so it may not be accessible for those with mobility problems. The elephants at the coffee shop live at the nearby Mae Wang Elephant Home and wander down to the river each day for exercise / feeding. There is strictly no riding and visitors can relax and admire them and feed them whilst enjoying a refreshing complimentary coffee or tea.
The bamboo rafting is along a gentle stretch of river so don't expect crazy rapids and it is suitable for children and adults. There will be plenty of spots to swim and cool off along the way.
