Overview
This elephant sanctuary in Mae Win was formed in cooperation with a Lanna Thai family who has lived and worked with elephants for two generations. The family is glad for the opportunity to transition away from elephant riding to a more evolved form of elephant tourism that provides a better life for the elephants. The herd includes adult elephants who used to labor in the logging industry and were later used for elephant riding. By visiting this elephant sanctuary in Mae Win you are making it possible for these elephants to enjoy a more natural, peaceful life.
The program is designed to be fun and educational for visitors and at the same time ensure a non-stressful environment for the elephants, giving them plenty of time to socialize and feed. As part of a small group, you’ll have the chance to dress in traditional Karen clothing and get to know the elephants while preparing food and feeding them, followed by a short walk along the banks of river and in the forest. After watching the elephants take a mud bath and play together, you will get to cool off while bathing them in the river.
This ethical elephant sanctuary in Mae Win is not physically demanding and is appropriate for families with children. This project also helps to support the local community by buying elephant food from nearby farmers and employing people from the local village.

Tour Plan
08.00am - 08.30am - Hotel Pick up
We'll pick you up from your accommodation within the city and make the 60 minute drive to the elephant sanctuary in Mae Win.
09.30am - 12.00pm - Enjoy time with the elephants!
After getting dressed in traditional Karen clothing you'll get to know the elephants, prepare food and feed them, and walk in the forest and the river.
12.00pm - 13.00pm - Buffet lunch
Take a break and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch
14.30pm - 15.00pm - Prepare to Leave
Say your goodbyes to the elephants and return to the city.
16.30pm - 17.00pm - Arrive in city
Arrive back at your accommodation and conclude the tour.
